Margaret Holloway
Pennine Precision Components Ltd · Burnley, England · Founded 1998
Took over the family precision-engineering shop in 2011 when it had 23 staff and one customer, and rebuilt it into a £14m subcontractor to three of the UK's tier-one automotive primes, employing 184 people from the same Burnley unit her grandfather opened.
Holloway is the third generation to run Pennine Precision. The business nearly closed in 2009 when its single major customer moved to a Polish supplier. Rather than chase the same export market, she spent eighteen months in the back of cars driving between Coventry, Crewe and Solihull, pitching cold to engineering managers at OEMs. The first contract took fourteen months to close. The second took five. The plant today runs three shifts. Most of the apprentices stay.
She is on the board of the regional Manufacturing Technology Centre and has personally trained four other tier-two manufacturers through the post-Brexit supply-chain transition. The Index notes this because we have heard about it from three of the four, unprompted.
184 staff. Three shifts. £14m turnover. Burnley unit continuously operated since 1962.
