Bootstrapped a vertical SaaS for independent care homes from a flat in Easton, growing it to £4.2m ARR across 340 customer sites without taking outside capital and without ever advertising the product.
Okafor worked night shifts in a care home through his computer-science degree at Bristol and noticed the back-office software was uniformly terrible. He built the first version himself in 2017, sold it door-to-door across the South West for two years, and only hired the first non-engineering employee in 2020. The product is sold exclusively through word of mouth between care-home managers, a network the larger competitors have spent millions trying to break into.
The Index notes that Margate runs a 32-hour week for all staff and has done since 2021. Revenue per head is comfortably above the sector median.
